C.K. just came out of the force, stepped into the corporate life, selling insurance and not earning well... his father-in-law, RICHARD LOW plays frustrated lawyer's clerk Loh Poh Huat ('Pa') who looks down on him... the sole income for his family and his arriving new-born counts on Mei...

Loh Poh Huat owes a lot of people lots of money just to send his only son DICK SU plays Seng to America to purse a degree in I.T.... as a girlfriend to Seng, SERENE CHEN plays Irene pumped in lots of money to help support Seng's education... but in the end, everyone found out that Seng screwed his education in Amercia...

the hero of the movie is ALICE LIM CHENG PENG plays Poh Huat's wife, Siew Luan ('Ma')... Ma supported the family in the way which no one notices... brewing liang-teh which no one appreciate... the things which she does after her marriage is washing, cooking, mopping, sweeping, brewing liang-teh... she has long forgotten her talent and hobby, singing...

my take on this movie: although this movie uses hokkien in some of the convensation, of in fact should i say is Singlish, kicked off with hokkien songs... it is a worth watching movie, even on weekends... heart-warming, am touched by how real the movie portray of individual character... their role is who you will see walking on the street everyday... way too down-to-earth movie... *2 thumbs up!*

'Singapore Dreaming' is a story about a family with big dreams, living on a small island.

Heavily in debt, patriarch Loh Poh Huat can't help but feel bitter irony whenever he has to perform his job as a lawyer's clerk - seizing goods from the homes of credit card debtors. At the end of his career and frustrated by the gulf between his middle class dreams and his working class reality, he takes his feelings of failure and envy out on his family.

So when Poh Huat suddenly wins two million dollars in the lottery, the Lohs start believing that maybe this windfall will deliver them from their struggles. But something happens which pitches the family into a battle where the stakes are the very meaning of life itself...

'Singapore Dreaming' is a poignant, yet darkly humorous story about a typical Singaporean family coming to grips with their aspirations. It weaves a layered and moving tale about a family dealing with loss, ambition and the search for what really matters in life.
